Mumbai, India – Somaiya Vidyavihar University (SVU) has officially inaugurated the Centre of Excellence in Polyurethane Technology (CoE-PUTech) at its Vidyavihar campus, in partnership with the Indian Polyurethane Association (IPUA). This strategic collaboration marks a major milestone for India’s polyurethane education and research ecosystem, bridging the gap between academia, innovation, and industrial application.
Empowering Education Through Industry-Academia Partnership
Building upon a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in April 2023, the partnership between SVU and IPUA has led to the creation of both the Centre of Excellence and a pioneering Post-Graduate Diploma in Polyurethane Technology (PGD-PU Tech.).
The PGD-PU Tech program is a work-integrated learning initiative that blends academic instruction with real-world industrial exposure. Designed for both students and professionals, the program provides a unique opportunity to gain specialized skills in polyurethane science, formulation, and sustainable materials—areas increasingly vital to modern manufacturing and environmental innovation.
A State-of-the-Art Polyurethane Research and Training Hub
The CoE-PUTech features a state-of-the-art PU-PPAD laboratory, equipped with advanced tools including airflow testers, hot air ovens, foam cutting machines, and compression set testers. These instruments enable hands-on learning in polyurethane processing, testing, and performance analysis, ensuring that learners are industry-ready upon completion.
Research at the centre focuses on sustainable polyurethane solutions, covering areas such as recycling technologies, end-of-life product management, and eco-friendly manufacturing practices. By fostering innovation across the polyurethane value chain, the CoE-PUTech aims to become a leading hub for polyurethane research and development in India.
