BASF Expands Global Digital Network with New Digital Hub in Hyderabad, India

BASF has announced plans to establish a new Global Digital Hub in Hyderabad, India, scheduled to begin operations in the first quarter of 2026. The move represents a further expansion of BASF’s international digital hub network, which currently includes locations in Ludwigshafen and Madrid in Europe, as well as Kuala Lumpur in the Asia-Pacific region. The Hyderabad hub will play a key role in strengthening the global delivery of standardized digital services that support BASF’s worldwide business operations.

The new facility is designed to consolidate digital expertise in a cost-efficient environment, enabling BASF to accelerate internal processes, improve scalability, and enhance service efficiency across functions. The initiative is led by BASF’s Global Digital Services division and aligns closely with the company’s broader digital transformation and competitiveness strategy.

Strengthening Digital Services and Operational Efficiency

According to BASF, the Hyderabad Digital Hub will support the harmonization and standardization of digital solutions used across the group. By centralizing capabilities such as application services, data analytics, automation, and digital platforms, BASF aims to create additional value for its core businesses while ensuring consistent service quality on a global scale.

Dirk Elvermann, BASF’s Chief Financial and Digital Officer, emphasized that the new hub will help secure competitive conditions for digital service delivery. He also highlighted that close integration between the Hyderabad team and BASF’s existing digital hubs worldwide will be critical to maintaining operational continuity and effectiveness.

Portfolio Focus and Workforce Adjustments

The establishment of the Hyderabad hub is part of BASF’s long-term plan to streamline its digital portfolio and concentrate resources on areas with the highest strategic impact. As part of this effort, BASF intends to make structural adjustments within its Global Digital Services division, including a gradual reduction in headcount by 2030. These measures will also affect positions in Germany.

BASF stated that all workforce-related changes will be implemented responsibly and in accordance with existing social standards, employee representation frameworks, and co-determination agreements.

Long-Term Commitment to India

Preparations for the Hyderabad Digital Hub are already underway. BASF has set up a new legal entity, BASF Digital Solutions Private Limited, and has begun initial hiring and operational activities. The company views the hub as a natural extension of its long-standing presence in India and its confidence in the country’s digital talent ecosystem.

BASF has operated in India for more than 130 years and remains deeply embedded in the country’s industrial and economic development. As of the end of 2024, the company employed 2,411 people in India, with eight production sites and 42 offices nationwide. The Innovation Campus Mumbai is an integral part of BASF’s global R&D and technology network. In 2024, BASF generated approximately €2.4 billion in sales from customers in India.
